Lipscomb Baseball Team’s Dominican Republic Mission Trip
Everybody gets the opportunity to reflect on his/her blessings with the approaching Christmas time.
The athletic department and Lipscomb baseball team will be involved in lots of activities in Dominican Republic over the period December 12-19. The group is planning to travel to Ponton community on the mission trip where the team will be responsible for helping others in need and spreading the gospels. For Lipscomb baseball members, this will be their first mission trip.
Brian Ryman, Director of Operations, Lipscomb, mentioned that they are planning to share their life and their faith with the community. The community was assisted in the past by several other Lipscomb teams. A new basketball court was constructed in Dominican Republic with the assistance from Lipscomb women’s basketball team. Since Dominican Republic’s national sport is baseball, the Lipscomb baseball team can certainly create an impact on the community. The Ponton community is situated on the fringes of Villa Bisono. To assist the ongoing ministry, the baseball team will work together with Association Centro Cristiano (Dominican Partnership) and Marte Mission (Lipscomb ministry partner).
The activities the team will perform include refurbishments of a park and a local sandlot baseball field. The team will spend time with the youth and share their faith. For many members, the tour will be their first mission trip out of the nation. In the third-world countries, there aren’t many options for help. The team will be arriving on Friday and they will stay at the guest house/local house. The players will familiarize themselves with the locals and church on Saturday as well as on Sunday.
